In a landmark move, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and US President Donald Trump have reaffirmed their commitment to fighting terrorism and ensuring justice for the victims of the 26/11 Mumbai and Pathankot attacks.

During a joint press conference in Washington DC on February 13, the two leaders called on Pakistan to swiftly bring the perpetrators of these heinous acts to justice and to prevent the use of its territory for cross-border terrorism.

The two leaders emphasized the importance of global cooperation to eliminate terrorist safe havens, and vowed to strengthen efforts to combat threats from groups such as al Qaeda, ISIS, Jaish-e-Mohammad, and Lashkar-e-Tayyiba.

They stressed the need to prevent further attacks like the tragic 26/11 Mumbai attacks and the Abbey Gate bombing in Afghanistan.

In a significant step forward, President Trump confirmed that the US would extradite Tahawwur Rana, the key accused in the 2008 Mumbai terror attacks, to India. “We are handing over a very dangerous man to India, one who is accused of the 26/11 Mumbai terror attack,” President Trump stated.

Rana, currently held in a high-security US prison, will face interrogation and trial in India, bringing closer the pursuit of justice for the 164 innocent lives lost in the attacks.

The US Supreme Court recently cleared the way for his extradition, with logistical details now being finalized by both governments.

Prime Minister Modi expressed his gratitude, thanking President Trump for expediting the process and reaffirming the US’s long-standing support for India’s efforts to bring the perpetrators of the Mumbai attacks to justice.

This cooperative step underscores the growing partnership between India and the US in addressing global terrorism and safeguarding peace and security worldwide.
